City lights up downtown with UTA colors

The city of Arlington has lit up the Levitt and City Hall with orange and blue lighting for the start of the semester. See for yourself when you visit the area on West Abram Street. Take your own photos, and tag them @utarlington and @cityofarlington.

MavsMeet celebration

MavsMeet Convocation started with a bang Monday, as cannons fired UTA T-shirts into the crowded arena during the event’s kick-off roll call. Representatives from student organizations including academic clubs, the Movin’ Mavs wheelchair basketball team and UTA’s resident assistants chanted and cheered as the emcee welcomed the Maverick community back to campus.

Move-In Day welcomes students, families

Thousands of new and returning students moved into UTA’s four residence halls and seven apartment communities over the weekend. Students, faculty, and staff helped at Saturday's Move-In Day event. Mavericks from more than 300 different cities, 30 states and 14 countries around the world unpacked and established their campus homes in anticipation of fall semester classes beginning Monday.

Meet and greet at Ready, Set, Research & Student-Faculty Mixer Friday, Aug. 26, and the Fraternity & Sorority Life Open House Monday, Aug. 29. The month ends with the Maverick Cookout and Activity Fair Day Wednesday, Aug. 31.

Playoff and parking

The College Park Center will host the WNBA Dallas Wings vs. Connecticut Suns playoff game at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24. UTA permit holders should expect parking delays, closed streets, and restricted parking lots starting at noon on Wednesday.

Parking news

New this year is a one-day upgrade to your parking permit. This includes the Maverick Parking Garage and prime spaces in select lots. Read more about other parking changes for fall 2022.

Transloc app for escort

Late Night Security Escort Service has changed apps. Use the free Transloc On-Demand app to schedule an escort 7 p.m.-3 a.m. seven days per week in the fall semester. New off-campus locations are Centennial Court, Maverick Place, 848 Mitchell, The Arlie, and Downtown Arlington.

DEI convocation

Mark your calendars for the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion convocation Wednesday, Sept. 14, in the Rio Grande Ballroom of the University Center. The topic is "The History of Race and Racism in North Texas and the Future of Equity Work." Register by Friday, Sept. 9.

Teams updates

Home Page is a new Class Teams experience for students and educators. Home Page can be used to collect and organize the most important files, links, and information for classroom success.

Users can access meeting video recordings and attendance reports directly in a learning management system incorporating the Teams Meeting learning tools interoperability app. The meeting recording and report will be available to all users once the meeting has ended.

Channel Meetings allows users to create meetings that target specific Class Team channels instead of a static list of attendees. Channel Meetings also allows you to connect your meetings with more content within the Class Team.

Swing for the fences and enjoy UTA Night at the Rangers with your fellow Mavs. The Rangers will play the Oakland Athletics at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Globe Life Field. Student tickets are $8. Buy tickets to the game to be eligible for a special UTA/Texas Rangers hat.

Research Opportunities

Military PTSD survey

Military-connected students are needed for a survey by the School of Social Work. The study is to better understand the factors, elements, and turning points that contribute to a military loss or trauma becoming a personal post-traumatic growth experience that results in a transformation outcome of helping others.
