Deadline today for Parent and Family Weekend

Register for UTA's Parent and Family Weekend today, Tuesday, Oct. 11, to show off what it means to be a Maverick.

The weekend is set for Friday-Sunday, Oct. 21-23, with activities across campus. Saturday is the busiest day with academic information sessions, games, sports events, and a family-friendly haunted house.

Commencement at Globe Life Field

To ensure that all Mavericks can invite friends and family to celebrate and enjoy a first-class graduation experience, commencement ceremonies will move to Globe Life Field for fall 2022, spring 2023, and fall 2023.

Grad Finale

Grad Finale this week

Purchase your cap and gown, class ring, and graduation announcements at the Grad Finale at the UTA Bookstore. Hours are through 4 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 11, and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday, Oct. 12-13.

Order your Maverick ring by Friday, Oct. 14, to receive it in time for the Maverick Ring Ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 1.

Exit survey sent to graduation candidates

If you are graduating this fall, please complete the Undergraduate or Master’s Exit Survey by Saturday, Dec. 31. You will receive a survey invitation from gradteam@uta.edu. The survey will also be accessible through Canvas.

Real-world experience

UTA’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering is partnering with State Farm Insurance on the State Farm Technology Lab to train students on what might await them in the business world.

Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies

Women and Gender Studies has upgraded its name to Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies to better represent the focus of the program. Celebrate the new name 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, on the Library mall.

Transfer Student Week

National Transfer Student Week is a way to celebrate transfer students and the professionals who support them on their journeys. UTA aims to increase awareness of common transfer needs and barriers and to build community among the current and former transfer student population.

Secure financial aid

Get assistance with completing your 2023-24 FAFSA or TASFA application 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, in the San Saba and Palo Pinto rooms of the University Center. Attendees will be entered into a raffle to win various prizes including a $500 book scholarship. Register to attend.

Degree map, planner

On Thursday, Dec. 1, Degree Map and Schedule Planner will be replaced by MavPlanner and MavScheduler. Current degree plans curated in Degree Map will transfer to the new MavPlanner by that date.

Student Success Champion Awards

The 2022 Student Success Champion Awards recipients have been announced by the Division of Student Success. The winners were selected for demonstrating a commitment to a culture of student success, experiential learning, retention and completion, innovative practices, and service to students.

Staff winner is Lynne Kinnan, assistant director of academic success and academic advisor, College of Engineering. Runner-up is Blake Carpenter, student data services manager, University Analytics.

Faculty winner is David Coursey, associate professor and director of the Master of Public Administration program, College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs. Runner-up is Karla Arenas-Itotia, assistant professor of practice, School of Social Work.

Early voting at MAC

Early voting for the Nov. 8 elections is at the Maverick Activities Center 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, Oct. 24-28, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, and 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday, Oct. 31-Nov. 4.

Documentary screening

A screening of the first episode of the local Black history documentary "Echoes from the Hill" is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Rosebud Theatre in the University Center.

Glass pumpkin sale

The Art and Art History Department’s 10th Annual Glass Pumpkin Sale and Fundraiser is set for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, for faculty and staff and Saturday, Oct. 22, for the public at the Studio Arts Center. Proceeds benefit the glass area's student organization and the program.

Texas history exhibit

A new exhibit, Shifting Shapes of Early Texas, looks at the people who shaped Texas through documents, books, and maps they left behind. The exhibit runs through Jan. 15 in Special Collections of the Central Library.

Cowtown Moderne exhibit

Art Deco expert Kathryn Holliday, professor of architecture, will speak at the Cowtown Moderne: The Lasting Influence of the Art Deco Style opening reception 4-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, in the Fine Arts Auditorium. The UTA Fine Art Collections and UTA Libraries Special Collections collaboration runs Monday-Oct. 17-Friday, Dec. 9, in the Visual Resource Commons and Fine Art Collections Gallery.

Halloween fun ahead

Plan your pre-Halloween fun on campus on Thursday, Oct. 27.

Halloween Casino Night is a substance-free Halloween party alternative to provide students with a fun and safe environment to enjoy this holiday. The event is scheduled for 7-11 p.m. in the Bluebonnet Ballroom of the University Center.

The evening includes a live DJ, alcohol and substance abuse awareness activities, mocktails, a costume contest, and a prize raffle.

The music of the night comes from the Fine Arts Building when voice Associate Professor David Grogan gives some Halloween-themed performances. Dr. Grogan is known to dress in costume for some of his songs. The program starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Irons Recital Hall.

Three Christian artists' tours come to campus this month. Tickets and parking passes are available at utatickets.com.

Gary Valenciano: Re-Energized Tour is set for Saturday, Oct. 15, at Texas Hall. VIP tickets are $158. Standard tickets range from $68 to $128.

Brandon Lake: Miracle Nights Tour with Blessing Offor and Joshua Silverberg is Sunday, Oct. 16, at College Park Center. VIP tickets are sold out. Suite tickets are $75. Standard tickets are $15-$50.

Curtain time for Newsboys: Stand Together Tour with Cochren & Co, Adam Agee, and Jeremy Rosado is Sunday, Oct. 30, at Texas Hall. VIP Tickets are $124.99. Standard tickets are $29.99-$39.99. A Family Four-Pack is $99.96, a 15% savings.

Sales tax and convenience fees will be added to each ticket. All sales are final. No refunds or exchanges.
