Homecoming 2022 was lots of fun

The week had some cold and wet moments, but Mavericks made the best of it for Homecoming 2022, Nov. 7-12. Students painted vehicles to celebrate UT Arlington. The annual Chili Cook-Off warmed hearts and stomachs, and The Bash filled Texas Hall with great music.

Saturday started off with the Homecoming 5K. Alumni, students, faculty, staff, and community members enjoyed the street festival, parade, and pep rally before the men's basketball game against Southwestern University.

Vaccine clinic Wednesday at MAC

A walk-in vaccine clinic for students and employees is set for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, in room 102A of the Maverick Activities Center. Bivalent COVID‑19 boosters and flu vaccines will be available and can be administered in tandem. No appointment is required.

COVID-19 boosters are free, regardless of insurance status. Flu vaccines at this clinic are free with insurance and $25 without, payable by cash or check.

UTA students also can get the flu vaccine through UTA Health Services for free. Call 817‑272‑2771 to schedule your free flu shot.

Tree honors veterans

Maverick Veterans, the UTA chapter of Student Veterans of America, recognized the sacrifices of World War II veteran Clifford Stump with the planting of a tree outside of the Office of Military and Veterans Services.

Recent grad, veteran honored

Marquerite "Maya" Herzog ('22 PhD, Quantitative Biology), a U.S. Navy veteran, was named a 2022 Ford Proud to Honor Hall of Heroes honoree.

Alumna fights for equitable climate policies

Charise Johnson (’09 BS, Psychology) is a modern-day renaissance woman—a science communicator, advocate, community organizer, and multitalented force for equitable policymaking who focuses on the intersection of climate decline and social justice.

COVID-19 testing center to close

The Curative COVID-19 Testing Center on Spaniolo Drive will close on Friday, Nov. 18. Find other COVID-19 testing options available to the UTA community on the COVID-19 website.

Thankgiving Dinner, Nov. 22, 2022

Gather for a Maverick Thanksgiving

UTA's annual campus-wide Thanksgiving Dinner is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the Connection Café in the University Center. Students on a meal plan will be able to attend for free; students without a meal plan can purchase tickets for $7.

Graduate school event

Attend Grad School Bound to learn about great graduate opportunities noon Wednesday, Nov. 16, in the San Jacinto room of the University Center. Learn how to select a graduate program and obtain insight into the graduate admission process and potential funding opportunities.

International Education Week

Celebrate the value of cultural exchange with International Education Week, through Nov. 18. Learn about the Fulbright U.S. Student Program Thursday, Nov. 17.

Say no to tobacco

Learn about the prevention and cessation of all nicotine products at Eliminate Tobacco Use Day (formerly the Great American SmokeOut) 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at Brazos Park. Free barbecue and T-shirts to the first 500 participants.

Recycle your electronics

Bring your personal electronic waste for recycling 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, on the University Center mall at the southwest corner of Woolf Hall. Stop by the trivia table for a chance to win sustainable prizes.

CEEI open house

The Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Innovation hosts an open house 2:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, to share about the entrepreneurial resources available. Please RSVP.

Apply to be a UT System student regent

The Office of Student Governance is searching for qualified student applicants for the UT System student regent and the student representative for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to serve for the 2023-24 term. These student representatives serve to provide a student perspective on various issues related to the UT System and higher education overall in the state of Texas.
