Mavericks receive Univision scholarships

Univision Dallas-Fort Worth, in partnership with UTA, has awarded two incoming freshmen the Univision Tu Futuro Tu Comunidad Scholarship. This year’s recipients, Maria Belen Cruz Garay and Belinda Alonso, each will receive full-tuition scholarships that cover the cost of a bachelor’s degree at UTA.

Cowley receives Meyerson award

The Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning has selected Jennifer Cowley, UTA president, for its Martin Meyerson Award for Distinguished Leadership in Higher Education. The annual reward recognizes an urban or regional planning scholar or educator for their significant impacts on higher education.

Distinguished fellows

The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) has selected three distinguished UTA researchers as fellows. AIMBE fellows comprise the top 2% of medical and biological engineers in the United States.

National Public Health Week at UTA

Celebrate National Public Health Week with the College of Nursing and Health Innovation April 3-7. Events include seminars on emergency management, rural health, and health equity. To see the full list of events, visit events.uta.edu.

Take Back the Night

Campus and community partners will be handing out free swag, offering survivor support, and educating students on sexual assault and relationship violence prevention at Take Back the Night Wednesday, April 5, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Brazos Park. The first 200 students will receive a bonus swag bag. The event is sponsored by Relationship Violence and Sexual Assault Prevention.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Paralympics and the media

Fulbright scholar Tatiane Hilgemberg presents a lecture titled "Paralympic Athletes and the Media: Past, Present, and Future" Wednesday, April 5, at 12 p.m. in SEIR 294. Ukraine lecture

Brian Whitmore, assistant professor of practice, presents a public lecture on "Ukraine and the Final Stage of the Soviet Collapse" Wednesday, April 5, at 12 p.m. Join in person in room 153 of the Business Building or online via Microsoft Teams. The event is sponsored by the Charles T. McDowell Center for Global Studies.

Graduation planning

Students who are planning to graduate this May but have not submitted their registration in MarchingOrder must do so by Friday, April 14.

In-person commencement ceremonies will be held Friday, May 12, at Globe Life Field. UTA’s virtual commencement ceremony will be available to stream starting Monday, May 15. A complete ceremony schedule is available online.

RSVP to Lavender Graduation

Spring 2023 graduates who identify as LGBTQ+ can sign up for Lavender Graduation, a special commencement ceremony recognizing the achievements of queer Mavericks on Tuesday, April 18, at 6 p.m. Friends, family, and graduates are encouraged to RSVP.

Celebrando el Éxito

Latino graduates are invited to register for the 2023 UTA Celebrando el Éxito ceremony on Thursday, May 4, in the University Center Bluebonnet Ballroom. To attend, graduates must register by Wednesday, April 26. Registration is free and participants will receive a serape stole.

The Big Event

Volunteer registration for The Big Event 2023 is open to the public until Friday, April 7. Join UTA's largest day of community service on Saturday, April 22, and give back to the Dallas-Arlington-Fort Worth Metroplex at any of 40 project sites, including local parks, schools, nursing homes, charities, and more. Service projects are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and all participants will receive free lunch at a Brazos Park celebration post-event. Graduate School Bound

Students who are interested in pursuing graduate studies at UTA can learn about advanced admission, academic research, and graduate school funding at Graduate School Bound on Wednesday, April 12, 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., in the University Center San Saba room on the second floor.

Distinguished speaker Julieta V. García

The Center for Mexican American Studies presents a lecture by Julieta V. García titled "Persistence Counts" on Wednesday, April 12. Drawing on her experiences as a public servant and community leader, Dr. García will discuss the significance of Hispanic/Latino representation in American society, politics, and higher education.

Black Maternal Health Week

The Office of Admissions is hiring MavElite Tour Guides to welcome prospective students to campus. Apply via Handshake by Thursday, April 13. The positions pay $10.50/hour and are open to all current UTA students.

GET PHIT

Undergraduate students interested in public health informatics and technology are invited to apply for the GET PHIT summer boot camp, a two-week introduction to public health informatics, data standards, analytics, epidemiology, and more. Are you graduating this spring? Complete the undergraduate or master's exit survey for a chance to win a $100 Amazon gift card.
