Greetings,

This month’s fall commencement, when we expect to graduate more than 5,200 students, serves as a reminder of why we’re all truly here: to prepare thousands of employment-ready students with broad educations and real-world skills to fill critical jobs across Texas.

We again are ranked among the very best universities in the nation for Hispanic students, while our thoughtful approach to supporting first-generation students means the University has a hand in altering the trajectories of thousands of Texas families.

We continue to innovate in the classroom and laboratories, offering a new data science degree that addresses the challenges of the 21st century and arms our Maverick students with essential knowledge for high-tech careers. Also, our steady focus on research excellence, as evidenced by our continued progress toward achieving all the milestones necessary to be the next Texas Tier One institution, is seen through breakthroughs in a variety of endeavors, from adaptive evolution to the study of hypersonic flight in our arc-jet plasma wind tunnel.

When I consider all that the Maverick community has accomplished in 2020, I am filled with optimism for what lies ahead.

Sincerely,

Teik C. Lim signature
