Greetings,

I am thrilled to let you know that after nearly 12 years of sustained efforts by past and present faculty, researchers, staff and students, UTA has earned the Texas Tier One designation from the state of Texas!

This distinction recognizes UTA’s academic and research excellence, and it secures our status as a preeminent institution for education, research and innovation. I am incredibly proud of this accomplishment and so grateful to the Maverick community for its focused efforts and unrelenting dedication as we worked together to achieve this milestone.

The Texas Tier One designation provides access to new funding from the National Research University Fund, a program Texas legislators established to assist state institutions as they pursue prominence among national research universities. It will supplement UTA’s ability to provide affordable, high-caliber education programs; expand our research capacity; attract exemplary faculty; contribute to the regional, state and national economy; and produce sought-after, workforce-ready graduates.

UTA’s pursuit of Texas Tier One was a significant, long-term undertaking that demonstrates Maverick determination and our commitment to excellence in academics and research. The designation places us among an elite group of national research institutions, and we are poised for even greater achievement in the years ahead.

Whether faculty, staff, students, alumni or supporters, all Mavericks can take great pride in this accomplishment. It bolsters the already highly regarded reputation of our beloved University and amplifies our opportunities for the future. Please join me in celebrating this success and sharing a heightened sense of Maverick pride.

Go Texas Tier One and Go Mavs!

Sincerely,

UTA achieves Tier One status

The University of Texas at Arlington has become just the fourth institution in the state to achieve designation as a Texas Tier One university, a significant milestone of excellence in academics and research that brings with it access to the state’s National Research University Fund.

The first university to achieve Texas Tier One designation in more than three years, UTA reached or exceeded rigorous benchmarks of quality established by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for at least two consecutive years.

Go Mavericks!
