UTA Impact

Greetings,

I recently provided a detailed update about the Maverick community in my annual State of the University conversation, and I encourage you to take a moment to listen to it. The occasion was an opportunity to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve undertaken together—and a reminder of why there is no better time to be a student, employee, friend or supporter of The University of Texas at Arlington.

In the face of unprecedented challenges due to the pandemic, we smoothly transitioned into both online and hybrid teaching and learning. Then, when it became safe to do so, we returned to primarily in-person instruction and avoided any COVID-related setbacks. In fact, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) has selected The University of Texas at Arlington as a Star Award recipient for its outstanding efforts to respond to COVID‑19.

Our operational decisions have allowed UTA to flourish. Our vibrant campus life, talented faculty and proven track record of preparing and credentialing Mavericks for successful careers make us a destination university for thousands of students from Texas and beyond. This past year, we awarded a record number of master’s and doctoral degrees and, for the fifth straight year, enrolled our largest freshman class in UTA history.

And we hit a major milestone in 2021, becoming just the fourth university in the state to achieve the Texas Tier One designation, giving us access the National Research University Fund. It’s a mark of achievement that signifies excellence in academics and research.

The journey continues, of course. UTA never rests on its accomplishments; instead, we continue to push the boundaries of discovery in sustainable engineering, solar technology, semiconductors and cancer research, while forging close ties with other institutions that benefit our growing population of Latino students. You can read about these initiatives in the links below.

These stories and accomplishments highlight how the reach and impact of our faculty, students and staff extend far beyond our campus. It’s indeed a great time to be a Maverick, and I thank you for being part of our community.

Sincerely,
