Faculty Orientation at UTA

Dear New Faculty:

We are honored to welcome you to Maverick country as a new member of our faculty. UTA's faculty is comprised of a talented group of award-winning teacher-scholars that form the core of a dynamic community committed to student success and academic excellence. UTA is taking every precaution to provide a safe learning and research environment for our students, faculty and staff as we return to classes in fall 2022. UTA is a Hispanic Serving (HSI) and a Carnegie R-1 very high research institution. Our mission is focused on access and excellence. UTA is one of the largest institutions in the state. In Academic Year 2019-20 enrollment totaled 61,457 students. We have more than 200,000 UTA alumni around the globe.

UTA's Faculty Affairs holds two faculty orientations. The Fall orientation is a two- day-long event open to ALL faculty that includes a welcome from UTA President Dr. Jennifer Cowley and Provost Dr. Tamara L. Brown. A Spring orientation is also held for faculty. Please see below for important information that can help ease your transition to UTA:

  • UTA ‘s Learning Management System (LMS) is Canvas. For training and other information please visit Canvas Website.
  • Syllabus Preparation. Faculty are required to use the syllabus template available in their Canvas course shell. All syllabi must be posted online by the first day of classes. The syllabus will migrate to each faculty member’s profile page in Digital Measures - Step-by-step instructions are available here.
  • We are offering trainings on Canvas.
  • You can find recorded workshops on Microsoft Teams, teaching techniques, and assessment here
