Message from the Provost

May 26, 2016

Dear Colleagues,

Please join me in congratulating our Dean of the College of Business, Dr. Rachel Croson, on her appointment as Dean of the College of Social Science at Michigan State University.

Dean Croson has led UTA’s College of Business to a successful reaccreditation for another five years by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), and has kept the business education needs of North Texas at the forefront of her mission. An active member of the regional business community, Dean Croson is a familiar face at Chambers of Commerce events, business breakfasts, and luncheon panels, and has worked tirelessly to promote the promise of a college degree as being attainable to all who wish to earn one.

The College of Business has achieved much under her guidance. The part time MBA degree is now ranked #82 overall and #50 among public research universities by U.S. News & World Report, among the most influential ranking publications nationally and internationally. Dean Croson and her faculty and staff worked collaboratively to build a strategic plan for the school; increase philanthropic giving from $1 million a year to $3 million last year; continue strong engagement of the Advisory Council; and convene new Advisory Boards for specialty programs that enhance community support in North Texas.

She and her team also launched new interdisciplinary degree programs such as the Entrepreneurship Certificate and the revitalized Masters of Science in Real Estate with CAPPA – the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs. At the same time, faculty members in the college have increased their publication record in top professional and academic journals.

Dean Croson will begin her new position at Michigan State August 1, 2016. An interim Dean will be appointed.

University leadership thanks Dr. Croson for her service to UTA, and wishes her the best in this new and exciting endeavor.

Warm regards,

Linda K. Johnsrud
