Sun Belt Champs

Your UTA Maverick men's tennis team brought home a Sun Belt Conference championship trophy this past weekend after an epic final match against the University of South Alabama. The win brought the team's record to 18-10 overall and set a program record for most wins in a season. After earning their first-ever Sun Belt Conference title, the team now waits for the release of the NCAA Tournament bracket to learn who and where they will be playing in the first round. Keep checking the UTA Athletics website for current updates about the team's postseason run.

Barrier Free Campus

The Barbara Jordan Media Awards presented this past weekend were a reminder that UTA offers the only minor in disability studies in the South. On May 4, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. in the Sixth Floor Parlor of the UTA Library, experts will meet to chronicle UTA's advancement as the leader in the field of disability studies. The roundtable discussion will be followed by an opening reception for Building a Barrier Free Campus: The History of Accessibility at UT Arlington, a special exhibit featuring materials from the library's new Texas Disability History Collection.

Alumni Spotlight

UTA alum and retired general counsel and senior executive vice president at AT&T, Wayne Watts, gave a moving speech at a Pre-Law Center Banquet last Monday. He encouraged students not to let financial hardships be a barrier to achievement, and he demonstrated how one scholarship donor forever changed his life. To honor Watts' legacy, AT&T established five scholarships in his name. For more information on how to start a scholarship to honor an important influence in your life, contact the Office of Development and Alumni Relations at 817-272-2584.
