ALUMNI WIN LONE STAR EMMYS
Five alumni recently received National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Lone Star Chapter awards. Jimena Fraga ’15, a producer for KXTX Telemundo39, was part of the team that won a Lone Star Emmy in the Morning/Daytime Newscast category. Four recent alumni — Nathalie Palacios (pictured), Jehova Azucena, Juana Palmieri, and Juan Correa — won for work they did while students in UTA’s Hispanic Media Initiative. READ MORE

CHEMISTS AMONG GLOBAL TOP 100
Three UTA chemists have been recognized among the top 100 scientists in the world by The Analytical Scientist magazine. Daniel Armstrong, Robert A. Welch Distinguished Professor; Purnendu “Sandy” Dasgupta, the Hamish Small Chair in Ion Analysis; and Kevin Schug, Shimadzu Distinguished Professor of Analytical Chemistry, were named to the magazine’s 2019 Power List. All three have appointments in the Department of Chemistry in UTA’s College of Science. READ MORE

AIDING OLDER ADULTS
A multidisciplinary team of UTA engineers and social workers is using a national grant to improve transportation for older adults living in assisted-living communities across the Dallas area. Kate Hyun, assistant professor of civil engineering, is leading the project, which is funded by a $248,628 grant from the National Institute of Transportation and Communities. Other research team members include Kathy Lee, assistant professor in the School of Social Work, and Caroline Krejci, assistant professor of industrial, manufacturing, and systems engineering. VIDEO GAME STUDY
A new study led by economics Professor Michael Ward found no link between violent video games and acts of violence. The project involved more than 15,000 participants and was published in the peer-reviewed journal Contemporary Economic Policy. READ MORE

LEGEND AWARD
Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price ’72 received the Great Women of Texas 2019 Legend Award from the Fort Worth Business Press. A UTA Distinguished Alumna, Price is the longest-serving mayor in Fort Worth history. Other UTA winners of this year’s Great Women of Texas Award were Carol Brown ’81, Donna Rutter ’87, and Molly Sandlin ’14. READ MORE
