MAVERICK SPEAKERS LINEUP ANNOUNCED
Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Bob Woodward kicks off the 2019-20 season of the Maverick Speakers Series on Sept. 19 in Texas Hall. This year’s lineup also includes renowned thought-leader Jackson Katz (Oct. 24), former U.N. Ambassador Samantha Power (Nov. 19), hip hop star Common (Feb. 11, 2020), and tech entrepreneur and best-selling author Vivek Wadhwa (March 26, 2020). NEW BRAZOS PARK UNVEILED
UTA students continued old traditions and began new ones last week, combining the 22nd annual Waffleopolis event with the opening of Brazos Park. University leaders cut the ribbon on the new park, located in the heart of campus, then made way for a night of music and dancing. The Brazos Park stage incorporates architectural elements from Brazos House, which housed UTA students from 1936 until 2018. A new amphitheater and open space was constructed in its place, made possible in part by a generous gift from alumnus Mustaque Ahmed ’81. READ MORE

CORPORATE PARTNERSHIP
UTA is partnering with the multinational networking and telecommunications company Ericsson to offer employees the education needed to earn a business analytics certification. Radha Mahapatra, professor and chair of the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management in the College of Business, said the four-course program will help Ericsson employees incorporate data analytics into business decisions. MAVSMEET WELCOME
The annual MavsMeet Convocation welcomed new and returning students, faculty, and staff to the new academic year. NASA aerospace research engineer Wendy Okolo, who in 2015 became the first black woman to earn a Ph.D. in aerospace engineering at UTA, was the keynote speaker. READ MORE

CANCER RESEARCH
UTA has received more than $2.1 million in grants from the Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) to support the University’s flourishing cancer research programs. CPRIT awarded grants to Yaowu Hao (pictured), materials science and engineering associate professor, and Piya Ghose, a new assistant professor of biology. READ MORE
