RADIO LEGEND RETIRES
Legendary radio personality Mike Rhyner ’81 has retired after 40 years on the Dallas-Fort Worth airwaves. Named a UTA Distinguished Alumnus in 2017, Rhyner co-founded The Ticket, the area’s first all-sports radio station, in 1994 and was a mainstay on its popular program “The Hardline” for 26 years. He was named to ESPN’s list of Sports Radio Personalities of the Year in 1997, 1998, and 2003 and was inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame in 2014 and the Dallas Press Club Legends in 2016. ALUMNUS WORKING WITH NASA
UTA alumnus Brian Prejean, a 2018 graduate of the Ph.D. kinesiology program in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation, is a human performance scientist at KBR Inc., an engineering company that provides contractual services to NASA. He is currently collaborating on a project for NASA’s Human Physiology, Performance, Protection and Operations lab. Prejean credits his UTA kinesiology professors with helping prepare him for this role. READ MORE

TxDOT GRANT
UTA faculty members Suyun Ham, assistant professor of civil engineering, and Simon Chao, professor of civil engineering, have received a $534,000 Texas Department of Transportation grant to use Dr. Ham’s non-contact testing system to make faster, easier, and more accurate determinations about when and where bridge repairs are needed in Texas. UTA has been an important TxDOT partner in evaluating and improving the state’s highway infrastructure, with a wide range of projects that include studies examining the safety, durability, and environmental impact of roads and bridges. According to an annual report from Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine, UTA is again among the nation’s leading four-year institutions in educating diverse, workforce-ready students. UTA ranked No. 1 in Texas for bachelor’s and master’s degrees earned by African American students, and No. 1 in the state and No. 17 nationally for master’s degrees awarded to all minority students.
