UTA is sharing stories of how the Maverick community is a force for good. Among our 230,000 alumni and 60,000-plus students, staff, and faculty are thousands of Maverick heroes providing essential support and care during the COVID-19 pandemic. From treating ill patients to creating do-it-yourself personal protective equipment to serving the hungry at food banks, Mavericks near and far are making a difference. VIRTUAL INNOVATION DAY
Virtual Innovation Day

UTA’s College of Engineering hosted its Innovation Day last week. Due to COVID-19, the event was moved online with students finishing their projects via virtual meeting software and judging conducted remotely. This year’s event featured 125 projects emanating from graduate research, undergraduate research, and senior design. Ulysses Aguilar, Alex Ho, Phu Nguyen, Aderinsola Oladaiye, and Jerry Olds took first place in Senior Design with their project, “Autonomous Lawn Mower.” Follow the link to view the full list of winners and read more about the projects: READ MORE

ESPORTS TEAM CONTINUES PLAY
Esports Team Continues Play

There’s one sport at UTA that hasn’t been sidelined during the nationwide shutdown. UTA’s new esports team—which participates in competitive and organized video gaming—has continued to practice, play, and win. “The tournaments and competitions are still ongoing, all online, and streamed,” said Drew Boehm, coach in the esports division of Campus Recreation. “Playing or watching esports is a safe way to stay entertained and remain social from within your home.” READ MORE

UTA alumna Diana Cervantes, aka “Dr. Microbe,” was recently featured in a Fort Worth Star-Telegram article highlighting her area of expertise: viruses. Cervantes discusses her past work as well as her current work related to COVID-19. READ MORE
