Courses

In addition to completing courses for their academic majors, Goolsby Scholars complete a set of four customized leadership courses and one field internship.  The heart of the curriculum is the paradigm of authentic leadership with its emphasis on self-awareness and personal integrity. In addition to John and Judy Goolsby Distinguished Professors who teach in the cohort format, faculty from other interested disciplines such as political science, military science, psychology, and social work contribute to the multidisciplinary education of these future leaders. The five cohort courses are:

  • MANA 3318 –Organizational Behavior , which focuses on the factors that influence individual and group behavior as well as self-awareness through psychological test feedback..
  • LSHP 4311 – Leader as Communicator, which enhances speaking, written, and listening communication skills.
  • LSHP 4313 – Senior Executive Leadership, which is taught by a panel of leading Metroplex executives.
  • LSHP 4315 – Executive Internship, which is a field placement opportunity for Goolsby Scholars to work with leading executives
  • MANA 4322 – Organizational Strategy, which focuses on integrating an organization's international functional activities and external environmental forces.
