About the Move-In Event

The Move-in Event is a campus-wide tradition to help residence hall students move into their new homes on opening day. More than 500 faculty, staff and student volunteers will be on hand throughout the day to welcome students, families, and friends. More importantly, they actually help new residents move their belongings into their rooms! That means more hands to carry stuff — which saves time and lets new residents focus on getting unpacked, meeting their neighbors, making new friends, and settling into their new homes.

Move-in day is an exciting day for everyone on campus.  The campus community springs back to the normal hustle and bustle as students return.  On move-in day, prepare to arrive in the morning when the temperature is cooler.  When you arrive, park in the designated lot (click map to the right) and visit the front desk first before bringing anything inside the hall.  Once you get your keys and complete your check-in process, a volunteer will help gather volunteers to go to your vehicle and take your personal belongings to your new room.  We provide stickers to label your property so our volunteers know which room to take your personal belongings.  Once your volunteers drop off your belongings to your room, get settled in, meet your roommate/suitemates and neighbors, and begin your college experience with Maverick Stampede Activities! For a simple, step-by-step move in day guide, see link below.

Simple Step-by-Step Move-In Day Guide

When is Move-in Event?

Move-in Event will be on August 21, 2017. The residence halls open at 9:00 a.m. and volunteers will be available until 2:00 p.m (limited volunteers will be available until 4:00pm in Arlington Hall, KC Hall, and Vandergriff Hall). You may move in anytime between 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. August 21-22, and between 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on August 23. Students that have not checked in by 5:00 p.m. on August 23 are considered “No Shows” and their rooms will be given to other students who are on the waiting list.

Can I move in early?

Students can request to move in on Sunday, August 20th between 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. for a fee of $25.  Early move-in requests are being accepted through 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2017. Click here to access the early move-in form.

WHERE CAN I PARK?

We have created a parking map to reference for Move-In Event. Check out your parking options below!

Parking Map

Vandergriff Hall residents will receive an email prior to the Move-In Event showing which parking garage would be most convenient to park in corresponding to their room number.

All residents should order their parking permit online after August 1st.   Check out Parking Service's webpage for more information and for detailed instructions on how to sign up for your permit.

WHERE CAN I FIND VOLUNTEERS?

Volunteers will be stationed at each residence hall, and they’ll be wearing Move-in Event t-shirts and wrist bands to identify themselves as helpers.

WHAT’S THE BENEFIT OF MOVING IN ON MONDAY?

Help to move your stuff, of course! Volunteers will only available on Monday, August 21st. Not to mention, there will be other great activities and incentives for those that move in on Monday!

  • Residence hall parent orientation session provided by Residence Hall staff at 5:30 p.m. where parents meet the Residence Director.
  • Meet your roommates and neighbors, and attend the first welcome back event in your residence hall Monday evening.
  • Early move-in provides time on Monday to buy books and visit offices on campus like the parking office and Mav Express.
  • Be able to attend other Maverick Stampede welcome week events.

WHEN WILL I FIND OUT MY ROOMMATE?

Roommate notifications are typically sent out the first full week of August to your UTA email address for students who have a confirmed reservation. If you do not get it by the end of the first full week of August, please email us at housing@uta.edu and request us to resend your email.  We sometimes get last minute cancellations as students make their final preparation to start school and these changes may effect who your roommate will be. Waiting until the first week of August allows us more confidence that your roommate provided will actually move into the residence hall.  Keep in mind though, we sometimes need to change roommates last minute.  If we do this, we make every attempt to notify you prior to move-in day.
