Award Winning Student-Run Media

The Student Publications office will be closed until further notice. Students and staff will be working remotely — please see the Shorthorn editor contact information or reach Student Publications Professional Staff.  For urgent requests, please call or text Assistant Director Tammy Skrehart at 817-480-8140.

The University of Texas at Arlington Student Publications office provides experience and training that complements students’ coursework, prepares them for careers in journalism and related professions and provides them with leadership opportunities.

Through work on the print and online editions of The Shorthorn, UTA’s award-winning student newspaper (and one of UTA’s oldest traditions) and other projects, students gain experience in print and online reporting, writing, editing, photography and videography, design, advertising, website development, marketing and media management.

This experience gives more than 100 students a year a chance to provide information that helps members of the UTA community make informed decisions about things that affect their lives. At the same time, it allows the Shorthorn staff to develop skills, build resumes, explore career options and enhance their college experience by being part of something important. All students on the staff of The Shorthorn work in paid positions.

Student Publications, part of the UTA Division of Student Affairs, provides professional advising and administrative support for the staff of The Shorthorn. We operate on revenue from the sale of advertising and allocations from the UTA Student Service Allocation Committee. Advisory oversight is the responsibility of the UTA Student Publications Committee, which also selects the editor in chief of The Shorthorn. The department reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs.
