After April 8, 2014, Microsoft XP users will no longer receive updates to their operating system. An excellent overview article was posted recently on Microsoft’s Security Blog – The Risk of Running Windows XP After Support Ends April 2014.

What to do if you’re still running XP? If you’re lucky enough to have a Dreamspark subscription, you can download Windows 7 or 8 for free – check with your college if you are eligible for a Dreamspark account. If your computer meets the minimum specs for Windows 7, you can get a student copy of Windows 7 from the UTA Bookstore for only $34.00. Most importantly, don’t wait until April 2014 to upgrade or use this as your excuse to buy a new PC!
