Phishing Attempt

September 26, 2013

Our office was recently made aware of the following message sent to some members of the UTA community:

No one at UT Arlington will ever ask you to update your NetID password via email, so you should immediately be able to identify this as a phishing attempt.

Hovering your mouse over the provided link shows something is definitely phishy –

The only online website to update your account password is UTA’s Self Service page.

The link in the email takes a user to a page that is most definitely not a UTA affiliated site –

Great job to the employee who immediately recognized this as a phishing attempt and forwarded it on to the Information Security Office!
