Cyber Security Awareness Month

This October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month, sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security in cooperation with the National Cyber Security Alliance and the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center, focuses on our shared responsibility to improving online safety and security for all Americans. 

In recognition, the Information Security Office (ISO) will host a Secure Electronic Media Destruction event for University assets and a series of Lunch & Learns for faculty and staff during the month between 11:30am and 1pm featuring UT Arlington faculty and staff.  Learn how phishing is used against you, how to protect yourself from cyber criminals, and how technology - like encryption - can be used to further secure your data and its weaknesses.

Oct. 23 - Secure Coding & Software Development

  • No cost, 1 day, hands-on training
  • For campus web application developers, architect, or it practitioners w/ SW experience
  • Time:  8:30am-5:00pm
  • Location: DED Technical Training Center, Room 118, 106 W 6th St, 76019
  • Bring your own laptop - details will be provided prior to the class
  • Lunch provided

Oct. 27-31 - Free Secure Electronic Media Destruction Week

  • The Information Security Office will cover the costs for the secure destruction of University owned hard drives & media during this time frame only
  • Departments to follow current University procedures for submitting computing devices & electronic media for surplus
    • Records & Information Management Procedure 13-5
    • Shredding of Records Through Asset Management Procedure 2-74
  • Items need to be delivered to central receiving with appropriate paperwork, Inventory Transaction Form 2-45
    • If more than 15 computers, please contact Central Receiving to coordinate assistance
Nov. 4 -  Maverick Speakers Series, “Sailing the Cyber Sea: The New Realities of 21st Century Security”
