Instructional Classes

CPR/AED/First Aid Classes:

These classes each consist of a single five-hour class, covering the American Red Cross first aid basics, medical emergencies, injury emergencies, environmental emergencies, adult CPR and AED use. Participants who successfully complete the class will receive an American Red Cross certification card valid for two years. Sign up today at the Services and Information Desk at the MAC, cost is $50.

Classes are limited to 8 participants with a minimum of 4 for the class to make.

NSCA-CPT Prep Course

This is a 6-week course that will meet twice per week for 1 hour each. It is designed to prepare future fitness professionals for the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s Certified Personal Trainer designation. The NSCA is a worldwide authority on strength and conditioning and evidence based coaching and fitness practices. They support and disseminate research-based knowledge and its practical application to improve athletic performance and fitness. The NSCA is one of the most prestigious organizations in the fitness and strength communities and they offer top-notch certifications, life-long learning, and educational opportunities for serious fitness professionals, trainers and coaches.

This course will be designed in a manner to provide both classroom education and hands-on experience. Course content will come from the NSCA’s Essentials of Personal Training text and the topics covered will include: Exercise Sciences, Initial Consultation & Evaluation, Exercise Technique, Program Design, Clients with Unique Needs, and Safety and Legal Issues. At the conclusion of the course, students will be ready to sit for the NSCA-CPT exam. A package of NSCA membership, an intensive 2-day Exam Prep Clinic, and a computer NSCA-CPT exam will also be available to class participants at an $80 discount.

This class is limited to 20 participants and minimum of 10 is required for it to make.

Fitness Instructor Training

Interested in teaching Group Exercise classes at the MAC?  If you have ever thought about becoming a Group Exercise Instructor, Fitness Instructor Training is for you! 

This eight week program is designed to provide you with the information and practice needed to lead a group exercise class.  We will cover areas of health and fitness including anatomy, physiology and kinesiology as well as practical information over cueing, music and choreography.  Classes will cover all you need to know to teach a safe, effective and fun fitness class with plenty of practice.

Class is limited to 10 participants. No previous experience is necessary. This is a workshop with a lot of practical experience; it is not a certification.
