SPJ Bowling event location changed
Posted 7-3-2012 by Barrie HillThe UTA chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists is sponsoring a pizza and bowling event 8 p.m. until midnight, Monday, July 9. The new location for the event will be Spare Time Lanes, located between California Street and Mayfield.
The $8 admission includes shoe rental, pizza, soft drinks, bowling and door prizes.
"The event will be a lot of fun and will give students a chance to find out about our UTA chapter of SPJ and the many events we have throughout the semester," said Kim Pewitt-Jones, SPJ faculty co-advisor.
The event will kick off this year's roster of events for the active UTA chapter, Pewitt-Jones said.
Founded in 1909 as Sigma Delta Chi, SPJ promotes the free flow of information vital to a well-informed citizenry; works to inspire and educate the next generation of journalists; and protects First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and press.
The Society of Professional Journalists works to improve and protect journalism. The organization is the nation’s most broad-based journalism organization, dedicated to encouraging the free practice of journalism and stimulating high standards of ethical behavior.
"We welcome everyone to come out and have a good time and learn how to get involved with SPJ at UTA," Professor Jones added. "And you might even win a prize."
Students interested in attending should RSVP for the event by Sunday, July 8.
