Standard Wireless Setup Instructions

System requirements: Linux, Mac, Windows

Description:

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) has installed wireless network access points in academic buildings across campus.  These wireless access points allow 802.11a/g/n devices to connect to the UT Arlington campus network for Internet access. Please contact the Help Desk if you experience any problems, no guarantee can be provided that you will be able to make a wireless connection.



How to Use:

Basic Setup - Choose UTA Web Login

  1. Open your available wireless connections window and connect to the ‘UTA Web Login’ network.
  2. When asked for a password for the UTA Web Login network, enter “UTAsecret”.  You should only have to enter this password the first time you connect to Web Login.
  3. Open a web browser.  If the login screen for Web Login doesn’t come up at first, attempt to browse to another website and your browser should be redirected to it. If a security warning comes up in your browser, choose the option to continue anyway and the Web Login screen should come up.
  4. At the Web Login screen, enter your NetID and password.  If your username and password are accepted you’ll be redirected to the OIT Online Terms of Service page.  You may browse to any other website after being taken to this page.

Advanced Setup - Choose UTAwireless Setup

  • View Wireless Networks.
    1. UTAwireless Setup (You may need to click Refresh network list).
      • Click the Connect button, and click Connect Anyway in the warning popup.
      • Open a web browser. You should be greeted with a welcome page.
      • Click the check box to accept the EULA, then click Start.
      • Choose either UTA Auto Login or UTA Web Login, then click Continue.
    2. UTA Web Login (You may also choose UTA Auto Login to set up the automatic connection.)
      • After you've connected to the "UTA Web Login" Wireless Network you'll be asked for a network key.  The key is UTAsecret (case sensitive, uppercase, lowercase).
      • Open a web browser.  Try to browse to a page other than your home page and enter your NetID and password in the login screen that comes up and click Submit.
      • Your device should now connect to the UTA Web Login network and be redirected to the OIT Computer Usage Policy web page.
    3. UTA Auto Login
      • If you want to be automatically connected at startup, leave the Automatically submit credentials box checked; otherwise, uncheck the box.
      • Enter your NetID and password , then click Continue
      • If you get a popup asking for you to enter your NetID and password, do so.
      • Your computer should pick up an IP address and connect to the UTA Auto Login network.
      • Click Done in the XpressConnect window to exit the XpressConnect application.

Known Issues: While these standard instructions should work for most common devices, please contact the Help Desk if you experience any problems. There is no guarantee that can be provided that a wireless connection will properly work on each and every device.
