Cascade Server Training

UT Arlington offers free tools for website maintenance. Cascade Server, the UT Arlington Content Management System, allows updating of content without technical knowledge.

The recommended training sessions will prepare you for content maintenance. Training in advanced topics is available for technically interested Cascade users.

Each training session builds on knowing and practicing the skills learned in the previous session.

Recommended Training Sessions

Session1: The Basics
Duration: 2 hrs lecture/worksession, 2 hrs Q&A
Outcome: Users are able to create pages, upload files and publish the pages.

Sesson2: Site Management
Duration: 2 hrs lecture/worksession, 2 hrs Q&A
Outcome: Users with the Manager role are able to add users, administer user rights, .......?

Advanced Topics

Session3: Structured Data Forms
Duration: 2 hrs lecture/worksession, 2 hrs Q&A
Outcome: Users understand basic page structure and structured data forms (Metadata Sets, Data Definitions), use of indexes and transforming XML to a page using Velocity. XML and Velocity will not be taught in this session. Links to more information and examples will be provided for further self-study.

Session4: Web Forms
Duration: 2 hrs lecture/worksession, 2 hrs Q&A
Outcome: Know how to publish a web form and process the form using PHP, and process incoming data. PHP will not be taught in this session. Self-study or prior knowledge are required.

Session5: Workflow
Duration: 2 hrs lecture/worksession, 2 hrs Q&A
Outcome: Understand how to use the Cascade Server WSDL and generate Java classes. Know how to analyze a page and understand the relevant web service calls. Java and web services will not be taught in this session. Self-study or prior knowledge are required.
