Revising and Editing: Learn how to identify and correct errors in your own writing. In this workshop, students will gain a better understanding of the differences between editing and revising. In addition, students are encouraged to bring a draft of their own work and an experienced consultant will guide students in applying revising and editing skills in an effort to improve their own writing projects.

Choosing Words Wisely: Using the right word at the right moment is important in writing assignments for specificity and clarity. Learn how to articulate your ideas more precisely in this workshop that discusses word choice and article usage, including how to locate appropriate synonyms and revising for more condensed language.

Sentence Structure: Learn how to revise and edit on a sentence-level, including identifying and correcting sentence fragments, run-ons, and comma splices. In addition, an experienced consultant will provide tips for transitioning from one sentence to the next in a cohesive manner.

Active/Passive Voice Workshop: In the sciences, passive voice is used frequently as a means of asserting objectivity, while in the arts, passive voice is largely avoided in favor of active voice. Learn when to use passive voice based on the rhetorical situation. In this workshop, an experienced consultant will discuss best practices for using passive voice based on the writing project and review grammar rules for correctly using passive voice and active voice.

Verb Usage: In this workshop, learn how to find and use the most appropriate verb for each sentence, phrase, or clause. An experienced consultant will discuss rules for a variety of verb tenses, how to make the subject agree with the verb, and how to choose more descriptive verbs to articulate your ideas.
We will not be hosting a workshop on Verb Usage during the Spring 2018 Semester.
Punctuation: Using the right punctuation mark for your sentence helps control tone of voice and provides clarity to your writing. In this workshop, an experienced consultant will discuss appropriate uses for periods, commas, colons, and semicolons.

Conjunctions: Varying sentence structure maintains a reader’s interest. Learn how to create complex sentences through proper use of the conjunction. In this workshop, an experienced consultant will review grammar rules for correctly using conjunctions.
We will not be hosting a workshop on Conjunctions during the Spring 2018 Semester.
