Be a Maverick and Be Prepared

Being a Maverick means Being Prepared. Every member of the campus community needs to know what to do during different emergency situations.

As classes begin for the spring semester, the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and the Environmental Health & Safety Office (EH&S) encourage you to download MavSafe, the UTA Emergency Response Plan app, to your smartphone, tablet, or computer to have University emergency resources readily available. The app is stored locally on mobile devices, so if the internet goes down, the emergency response plan will still be available. Open a browser and go to uta.edu/mavsafe. Please note that Safari is the recommended browser for an iPhone and Chrome for an Android.

You should also take the time to become familiar with the EH&S Emergency Source page, building evacuation routes, and other emergency instructions and terms such as “lockdown” and “shelter in place” (see graphic below). This UTA video provides additional information regarding what to do in various types of emergencies, as does this educational UTA Active Shooter video.
