The University of Texas at Arlington

June 1, 2021

Dear UTA faculty and staff,

In response to new guidance on the use of face coverings by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state of Texas, UTA’s COVID‑19 Summer 2021 Campus Operation Plan has been updated.

The plan still guides our on-campus health and safety protocols and the measures we encourage every Maverick to take to protect the well-being of employees and students this summer, including social distancing, the highly recommended wearing of masks, participating in regular COVID‑19 testing, and daily self-monitoring.

The plan also informs our return to on-campus work for employees. UTA is planning a phased return of employees starting with Phase 1 (June 1 – July 12), which includes the reopening of offices while maintaining low-density staffing. It also signals the return of positions that are needed on campus for campus safety or operations and those jobs that cannot be performed effectively remotely. During Phase 2 (July 13 – August 18), staffing levels in all offices will gradually increase until they are fully staffed by the end of the phase, with the exception of remote work arrangements.

For both phases, the determination of scheduling is made by the employee’s immediate supervisor and the respective dean/vice president based on the needs of the University and the employee.

If you have not done so already, we hope you’ll consider getting the COVID‑19 vaccine; it is an invaluable tool as we strive to resume normal living, working, and learning. The most up-to-date information on vaccine opportunities for the UTA community is always available on our COVID‑19 Vaccination Information and Resources webpage.

The health and safety of our community hinges upon our collective ability as Mavericks to remain responsive and adaptable to the latest developments surrounding COVID‑19. We appreciate your flexibility as we routinely evaluate our Campus Operation Plan against the latest available guidance in the interest of preserving our ability to provide a safe work environment and educational experience.

Your partnership and commitment to your health and safety and that of others has been invaluable every step of the way as we, together, have responded to this pandemic and the challenges it presented. Thank you for your continued diligence, and we look forward to seeing you on campus soon.

Sincerely,

John Hall
Vice President for Administration and Campus Operations
Co-Chair, COVID‑19 Executive Task Force

Lisa Nagy
Vice President for Student Affairs
Co-Chair, COVID‑19 Executive Task Force
