| Whereas | The University of Texas at Arlington has spent the past decade investing heavily into research and academics which has paid incredible dividends for the university. This can be seen by the university being named to the elite group of R-1: Doctoral Universities—Very High Research Activity by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education as well as becoming the fourth institution in the state to achieve designation as a Texas Tier One university. |
| Whereas | UTA has not kept pace with other peer institutions in terms of investment in the campus and co-curricular experience of its students, leading to low engagement and involvement among campus students and alumni; and |
| Whereas | UTA offers a multitude of resources and services that routinely go underutilized by the student body at large, including the Money Management Center, Career Development Center, Follet Student Leadership Center, and other services offered by the Division of Student Success; and |
| Whereas | A robust co-curricular and campus experience is an important aspect of the college experience, allowing students to develop skills and competencies not taught in the classroom, build relationships and networks, and foster a sense of community and belonging on campus; and |
| Whereas | Newly appointed University President Dr. Jennifer Cowley has spoken about these issues as well as created five “strategic themes” to help guide the university’s future efforts which are: “Alumni and Community Engagement”, “Student Success”, “People and Culture”, “Research and Innovation” and “Finance and Infrastructure”. These themes however, do not show a clear emphasis on the campus and co-curricular experience of Students. |
| Whereas | The Office of the President is currently in the process of developing the new Strategic Plan for the University. A strategic plan for a university is a comprehensive document that outlines the institution's goals and objectives, as well as the strategies and tactics it will use to achieve them. The plan usually covers a period of several years and is developed through a collaborative process involving faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders. |
