| Whereas | The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is a diverse campus, home to students from many cultural backgrounds, including a significant number who come from cultures where washing with water is the standard method of personal hygiene after using the restroom; |
| Whereas | Bidets, which provide a water-based cleaning option, are widely used in many parts of the world and are considered an essential part of hygiene in numerous countries; |
| Whereas | Providing bidets on campus would promote inclusivity and comfort for the vast majority of students who are accustomed to using water for personal hygiene, enhancing their sense of belonging and well-being at UTA; |
| Whereas | Bidets also offer practical benefits for individuals with disabilities or limited mobility, as they can improve hygiene accessibility and reduce the physical strain associated with traditional methods; |
| Whereas | Bidets offer a hygienic alternative to traditional toilet paper use, helping to improve cleanliness, reduce irritation, and contribute to overall health and comfort for students; |
| Whereas | Installing bidets is also an environmentally conscious choice, as it can help reduce the use of toilet paper, thereby decreasing waste and contributing to UTA’s sustainability goals; |
| Be It Further Resolved That | The Student Senate of UTA formally requests the administration to explore the installation of bidet attachments in campus restrooms, and other facilities where restrooms are utilized, to accommodate the diverse hygiene practices of students; |
| Be It Further Resolved That | The Student Senate encourages UTA to conduct a survey of student preferences regarding restroom facilities and hygiene options to ensure the bidet installation meets the needs and expectations of the student body. |
