| Whereas | the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment; and |
| Whereas | many students, faculty, and staff at UTA identify as transgender, non-binary, or gender non-conforming, and it is imperative that their needs are accommodated to create a safe and welcoming environment for all; and |
| Whereas | gender-neutral restrooms, while a step in the right direction, may not fully reflect the diverse gender identities present in the UTA community, and thus there is a need to reevaluate restroom signage to better represent them; and |
| Whereas | the current signage for family restrooms may create confusion or a sense of exclusion for individuals seeking a gender-diverse restroom option; and |
| Whereas | other universities have successfully implemented gender-diverse restroom signage, setting a precedent for UTA to follow; and |
| Whereas | enhancing inclusivity through restroom signage helps reduce the stigma and anxiety faced by gender-diverse individuals when using public facilities; |
| Be It Further Resolved That | that the University of Texas at Arlington change its existing gender-neutral restrooms across campus to ensure they reflect gender-diverse identities, specifically through updated signage; and |
| Be It Further Resolved That | that UTA replace or revise signage on family restrooms to include symbols or language that is explicitly inclusive of all gender identities, and broader diversity and efforts to ensure a campus environment that respects and affirms the identities of all individuals. |
