Dennis S. Marynick received his B. S. in Chemistry with Honors from California State University at Los Angeles in 1969. He was awarded an NSF Predoctoral Fellowship and attended graduate school at Harvard University, under the direction of Professor W. N. Lipscomb. After receiving the Ph. D. degree in 1973, he was awarded a Miller Institute for Basic Research in Science Postdoctoral Fellowship at U. C. Berkeley, where he spent two years in the Departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry. He then returned to Harvard for three years as a Lecturer of Chemistry and postdoctoral fellow (with W. N. Lipscomb). He became an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at U. T. Arlington in 1978, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1982 and Full Professor in 1986. In 1996, he became the Jenkins Garrett Professor of Chemistry. He has also received the College of Science Teacher of the Year Award and the Award for Distinguished Research from U. T. Arlington, as well as the Wilfred T. Doherty Award from the Dallas-Fort Worth Section of the American Chemical Society. Professor Marynick has approximately 170 publications in refereed journals. His research specializations include the development and application of molecular orbital techniques for large molecules, the application of density functional methods to problems in organometallic chemistry and the investigation of ion-molecule process related to MALDI mass spectrometry.
