Requirements for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science The University's core curriculum, required for all bachelor's degrees, is explained under Degree Program Requirements in this catalog. In addition to the core curriculum, the requirements for the BS degree in Environmental Science are listed below. Geology Courses1425 (Earth Systems), 2445 (Mineralogy), 4405 (Meteorology & climatology), 4365 (Physical Oceanography), 4308 (Environmental Geochemistry), 4320 (Hydrology), and 9 hours of advisor approved, upper-division electives Biology Courses1441 (Intro Biol), 1442 (Intro Biol), 2343 (Evolution & Ecology), 3315 (Genetics), 3457 or 3444 (General Ecology or General Microbiology), 3356, (Environ. Systems -- Biol. Aspects), 3457 or 3444 (General Ecology or General Microbiology), and 9 hours of advisor approved, upper-division electives Natural Science other than Geology and BiologyA year of Chemistry, and Physics that includes CHEM 1441 and 1442; PHYS 1441 or 1443, and 1442 or 1444. Either Organic Chemistry (2321, 2181, 2322, and 2181) or Quantitative and Physical Chemistry (2335, 2285, and 3301) Mathematics 3316 (statistics); 1426 (Calculus I) and 2425 (Calculus II). The Math Department requires a placement exam to enroll in Calculus I. Depending on the results of the placement exam, students may be required to take one or more of the following: College Algebra, Trigonometry, and Precalculus. Computer LiteracyAny computer related course such as Geol 4330, Understanding GIS Oral Communication COMM 3302 (also satisfies Liberal Arts elective) or pass oral presentation requirement in GEOL or BIOL courses. General RequirementsThe University requires at least 120 total credit hours, of which 36 must be upper division hours.
