Solid phase material is ubiquitous in the universe, wherever temperatures fall below condensation values. In this talk, I will outline a recent suite of observations and theory that describe the interaction of solids with plasma in circum-stellar space. Related laboratory studies and several new observational initiatives seek to resolve outstanding dynamical problems.
