Purpose of position To assist the Planetarium in UT Arlington's goal to inspire and educate visitors on the wonders of the Earth and Sky
Essential functions Present a live sky show by manipulating the viewer to show particular areas of the sky, pointing out specific points in the sky and constellations. Prepare presentation by researching upcoming events. Use a computer software system (digistar III) to assist in presentations. Answer audience questions.
Marginal/Incidental functions Other functions as assigned.
Required qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, or a related field. 1 year of teaching/presentation experience or other related experience. Good personal skills with school-age children and the general public. Knowledge of astronomy and the night sky. Preferred qualifications Operational experience of a Digistar Planetarium. Spanish speaking skills. Excellent presentation and communication skills. Computer skills.
Working conditions Uniforms (furnished). Climbing of stairs. Security Sensitive; criminal background check conducted. Hours will vary from 2 to 10 hours per week on weeknights and weekends.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
