Description of Research
Dr. Lopez’s research falls into five distinct categories: a) Organizational justice and fairness, b) Job analysis processes and improvements, c) Research on work teams, d) Scientific examinations of competency modeling, and e) Generational/Cohort studies.
A) Organizational justice and fairness - Everyone wants to be treated fairly. The belief that one is being treated fairly contributes to job satisfaction and commitment. But what happens when injustice occurs on the job? How might unfair policies or a rude boss affect a person’s well-being? This line of research investigates the relationships between injustice at work and the consequences that follow.
B) Job analysis – Job analysis is the cornerstone of I/O Psychology and the process can be done using a variety methods and processes. This line of research investigates how job analyses are done within organizations, how certain factors affect the job analysis process, and how the process can be improved.
C) Research on work teams – This line of research investigates the factors affecting work teams including team performance, team potency, team support systems and stage of team development. In addition, manager perceptions of team potency and performance are being examined.
D) Scientific examinations of competency modeling– Competency modeling is a popular way for organizations to develop selection processes, training programs, performance appraisal processes, and align their structures across all levels. This line of research empirically investigates how competency models are being developed and applied in organizations, and how they can be improved.
E) Generational/Cohort studies – Currently, we are assessing the values among the “GenY” cohort by exploring what factors define this generation.
