Remarks The Student Senate believes this resolution will be very beneficial to scholarship awarded students. A select number of univerisities already allow credits from other institutions to be used towards academic scholarships. This will be extremely helpful for students who are unable to take 15 plus hours per semester at UTA for various reasons and would like to, or are limited to taking a summer class elsewhere and would like to be able to keep their UTA scholarship.
Whereas Many students at the University of Texas at Arlington are required to meet 30 hours per academic year for reasons such as scholarships; and
Whereas Some students must take summer courses that can only be held on UTA's campus to count toward this hour requirement; and
Whereas Many students that need to take these summer courses live outside the DFW metroplex and are unable to also take advantage of opportunities such as work, internships, etc. simultaneously; and
Whereas The success of UTA's students is jeopardized by the threat of losing important scholarships due to their inability to reasonably meet the hour requirement; and
Whereas Other Texas universities such as Texas A&M University accept transfer hours going toward total hours necessary for scholarships.
Be It Further Resolved That The University of Texas at Arlington allow credit from other accredited junior colleges and universities when considering a student's yearly academic hour requirement.
