I am an invasive-species biologist for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) and an adjunct lecturer here at UT Arlington. My official title is Assistant Aquatic Nuisance Species Coordinator for the Southwest Region's Division of Fishery Resources. My region includes Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. Although, invasive species do not recognize political boundaries, thus, I work all over the United States and sometimes venture into Canada and Mexico. My duties are to work with others, to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people. My main focus is in preventing new and continued spread of aquatic invaders such as zebra mussels, giant salvinia, golden applesnails, New Zealand Mudsnails, and Asian carp. I work closely with the federal Aquatic Nuisance Species Task Force, state and federal invasive species biologists, tribes, and the general public in educational outreach efforts and other prevention strategies.
