The Center for Electron Microscopy and related techniques. Course work and individual
training are available for approved undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate students and faculty who wish to gain experience in or
utilize electron microscopy and/or x-ray analysis in their research. The center is housed in a suite of rooms in the Life Sciences
Building. There are three electron microscopes: JEOL JEM-1200Ex TEMSCAN STEM equipped with an Oxford AN-10000 x-ray analyzer and
image analysis system and a double tilt specimen stage; JEOL JSM-35C SEM with a Tracor Northern x-ray detector and a Vital Scan Digital
Image system for image archiving and enhancement; JEOL JSM-T300 SEM offers a large specimen stage with backscatter detector. There are
several Light microscopes (Bright field, Phase contrast, Polarization, Epi- illumination with both digital and analog cameras. The
Center has four PC based image analysis computers, each with scanners and printers and photoshop. They use Image Pro Plus, Optimus,
Sigma Scan Pro, Metamorph and NIH Image and are available for use with both light and electron image applications. The Center also has
darkrooms, microtomes, ultramicrotomes, sputter coaters, critical point drying and other ancillary equipment. The Research and Training
program has involved faculty, visiting Faculty, Postdoctorials and students from Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, Psychology, Anthropology, Engineering and Indiciplinary Studies.
