Welcome to the Nanostructured Magnetic Materials Research Group led by Prof. J. Ping Liu at University of Texas at Arlington.

Research Focus

The significant increase of applications of advanced materials has created a great demand for deliberate exploration to nanostructured magnetic materials. Our group is currently working on hard and soft magnets spanning all four dimensions -  nanoparticles (0D), nanorods and nanowires (1D), thin films and multilayers (2D), and nanostructured bulk magnets (3D).

In the Middle of Difficulty Lies Opportunity

Physical and chemical synthesis of nanoparticles provides many opportunities toward discoveries in materials world

What's  New
  • Dr. Liu is invited by the organization committee to give a talk in INTERMAG 11 Conference, Taipei, Taiwan, on bottom-up approaches to fabrication of nanocomposite magnets,  April 26, 2011.

  • Our work is mentioned in the news report “The Pull of Stronger Magnets”, Nature, Vol.472, 7 April 2011, pp22-23, http://www.nature.com/news/2011/110406/full/472022a.html (PDF attached).

  • Dr. Liu gave an invited seminar at the Materials Advantage Chapter at the Texas A&M University on hard magnetic nanoparticles, April 6, 2011.

  • Dr. Liu is invited by the organization committee to give a talk at the TMS 2011 meeting, on nanoscaling by plastic deformations, San Diego, March 1, 2011.

  • On November 29, Prof. Min Qi from Dalian University of Technology gave a Physics Seminar on crystallization of amorphous alloys under dynamic loading and high magnetic fields. Prof. Qi visited our laboratory from November 8 to December 7, 2010.

  • On November 24, Prof. Aru Yan from the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering (NIMTE) gave a Physics Seminar on research activities on permanent magnets at NIMTE. Prof. Yan visited our laboratory for ten days after attending the Conference on Magnetism and Magnetic Materials held at Atlanta.
