ASSISTANT DEAN RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS PRESIDENT'S AWARD
We are thrilled to announce that our Assistant Dean for Student Success and Operations, Professor Chuck MacBride, has been awarded the UTA President's Award for Excellence in Teaching. This prestigious honor, approved by President Cowley and Provost Brown, is a testament to Professor MacBride's unwavering commitment to students and the University's educational mission.
Professor MacBride's remarkable teaching contributions have enriched the lives of countless students and served as a source of inspiration for his peers and colleagues. His devotion to excellence in teaching sets a maverick example for the entire academic community. This award recognizes practical, inspiring, and innovative teaching—a true reflection of Professor MacBride's approach.
When asked about the significance of this recognition, Professor MacBride said, "I am honored to receive this award and look at it as a reflection of the talented, creative, and curious students at the School of Architecture." His heartfelt appreciation highlights the collaborative spirit at the core of his teaching philosophy.
Professor MacBride elaborated on his teaching practices, emphasizing a unique approach in the studio environment. He views the studio at CAPPA as a joint venture, encouraging students to collaborate on design projects. "I do not assign specific styles or systems. Instead, I encourage an investigation into diverse precedents and emphasize the larger design goals of projects. Students learn creativity by exploring different options rather than simply completing assignments," he explained.
As for the future, Professor MacBride hopes that this recognition will lead to more faculty at the College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs receiving accolades for their outstanding contributions. "The teaching and research at CAPPA are outstanding and deserve broader recognition across campus," he noted.
In closing, our Assistant Dean for Student Success and Operations conveyed an impactful message about teaching excellence to his fellow faculty members: "All of the CAPPA faculty understand that we are here for the students, and teaching is truly the best part of our job. The unique culture of design and invention, combined with the vibrant energy of the studio, makes the school of architecture the best educational setting ever created."
Congratulations to Professor Chuck MacBride on this well-deserved and remarkable achievement! His commitment to education continues to inspire both students and faculty alike.
