On October 10th, the University of Texas at Arlington's College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs (CAPPA), in partnership with Vision North Texas, proudly launched its milestone year with the CAPPA 10 Kickoff Summit. This event celebrated a decade of innovation, collaboration, and impact in shaping the future of North Texas.

The summit brought together faculty, students, alumni, and community leaders, including Arlington Mayor Jim Ross, UTA President Dr. Jennifer Cowley, and UTA Provost Tamara Brown, for an inspiring day of reflection and forward-looking dialogue.

President Cowley speaking

President Cowley and Dean Ming-Han Li opened the summit with remarks that highlighted the significance of the number "10," CAPPA's legacy of interdisciplinary excellence, and its growing influence on regional development.

Den Li speaking"Over the past decade, CAPPA has become a platform where ideas meet action—where design, policy, and planning converge to improve lives," said Dean Ming-Han Li. "As we look to the next ten years, our focus remains on empowering our students, strengthening partnerships, and shaping a resilient, equitable, and visionary North Texas."

A highlight of the summit was a dynamic panel discussion moderated by Dr. Taner R. Özdil, featuring Todd Little (NCTCOG), Tamela Thornton (ULI-DFW), Chris Wallace (NTC-DFW), and President Cowley. The panel explored the challenges and opportunities of regional growth, emphasizing the importance of cross-sector collaboration to achieve a sustainable and inclusive future.

The CAPPA 10 Kickoff Summit also marked the beginning of a year-long series of events designed to engage current students and reconnect with alums. Upcoming highlights include the CAPPA 10 & Vision North Texas Workshops, the CAPPA Career Fair, and the CAPPA Research & Creative Works Symposium—each reflecting CAPPA's ongoing commitment to academic excellence and community partnership.

Vision North Texas, an award-winning collaboration among private, public, and academic partners, has long served as a regional forum for addressing growth, mobility, air quality, and sustainability across the 16-county North Central Texas region. Beginning in early 2026, the Vision North Texas Workshop Series will continue this mission, fostering cross-sector collaboration to tackle emerging challenges.

As CAPPA celebrates "A Decade Together, A Future of Possibilities," the college invites the community to help shape the next chapter of regional innovation, leadership, and impact.
