Spencer E. Evans statue of GW Jackson unveils in Corsicana

GW Jackson Multicultural Society is honoring GW Jackson with a statue unveiling. The Community is invited to Legacy Park Unveiling Ceremony March 28, 11:00am, the corner of MLK and 5th Street. Immediately following the unveiling we invite you to our Luncheon and program at Cook Center, Navarro College Campus, Corsicana. Reservations are required for the luncheon http://www.corsicana.org/events/details/gw-jackson-legacy-park-luncheon-6133

Corsicana’s rich history is represented in bronze figurative statues on street corners, playing fields, government buildings, and soon, a new park, with the unveiling of GW Jackson at the new Legacy Park.

Jackson was a pioneer educator and principal of one of the first schools for African American children in North Texas. It will be the 17th bronze statue in the city of Corsicana. Posed in Jackson’s legendary counseling style, it will be Corsicana’s only statue erected in a dynamic seated position, and the first monument depicting a person of color in the city’s history. This commemorative project was organized by The GW Jackson Multicultural Society. The statue was conceptualized, planned, and sculpted by Artist, Professor, and a former MFA student at UT Arlington, Spencer E. Evans. The Park was realized by Corsicana’s Parks and Recreation Department.
