Glasstire, a Texas-based online arts magazine, recently featured a story on a new venture announced by Associate Professor Sedrick Huckaby and his wife, artist Letitia Huckaby. “Kinfolk House,” a collaborative project space, is situated in the former home of Sedrick Huckaby’s grandmother in the Polytechnic Heights neighborhood of Fort Worth. According to the article, Professor Huckaby’s grandmother serves as the inspiration for the space - “most notably the conviction that creativity exists in many vastly different forms... Although she wasn’t a traditional artist, she possessed a creative spirit that that forged unlikely friendships and bridged interpersonal friction.”

The goal of the Huckaby’s in opening Kinfolk House is to provide a venue in a traditionally underserved community that can host creative projects that emphasize collaboration and “seek creativity outside preconceived notions of art.” Part gallery, part community space and education center, Kinfolk House plans to actively listen to and incorporate neighborhood needs and wants into the project space’s programming.

The grand opening is planned for February 2022 showcasing a mixed media collaboration by Sedrick and Letitia Huckaby. For more information, see the Kinfolk House website at https://kinfolkhouse.org
