POLS Networking & Engagement Day
ARLINGTON, Texas — The University of Texas at Arlington’s Department of Political Science brought together political science majors, students from a variety of other disciplines, campus organizations, faculty, alumni, and community partners for its inaugural Networking and Engagement Day on October 22, 2025, held inside the bustling Maverick Activities Center (MAC).
The MAC turned into a hub of conversation, career exploration and community outreach. Rows of tables provided a space for representatives from local government offices, nonprofits, advocacy groups and campus programs to speak with students about opportunities in public service, policy work and community engagement.
“This is one of the best ways for our students to see how their interests in politics and service can translate into real, meaningful work,” said one of the organizers. “We want them to walk away with connections and ideas they can build on.”
Students said the event gave them a clearer view of what they can do with their degree—whether in government, law, nonprofits or fields they had never considered before.
Community partners also said they valued the chance to meet students who are eager to get involved. Representatives shared information on internships, volunteer positions and upcoming initiatives across Arlington and the greater North Texas region. Many are looking forward to the next one.
The Department of Political Science hopes the event will help students expand their professional networks and learn about engagement opportunities both on and off campus.
Organizers said they hope to continue growing the program in future years, bringing in even more partners and offering additional ways for students to explore careers in public service.
