Bernard Kwadwo Oteng

Bernard Kwadwo Oteng is a first-year Ph.D. student at the School of Social Work at the University of Texas at Arlington. His research interests center on child and adolescent mental health, trauma-informed interventions, and the ways culture and generational experiences shape family engagement in behavioral health services.  He is particularly interested in examining how cultural values and generational trauma influence participation in Intensive Home-Based Treatment (IHBT) and the long-term outcomes of children and families receiving these services.

Before beginning his doctoral studies, Bernard worked as an Intensive Home-Based Treatment (IHBT) therapist. His clinical work strengthened his commitment to developing culturally responsive interventions that address the unique strengths and needs of diverse families. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Social Work with Sociology from the University of Ghana and his Master of Social Work from Case Western Reserve University.

Outside of academia, Bernard enjoys mentoring young people, watching soccer, playing video games, and traveling.
