Prior to beginning her doctoral studies, Helena gained extensive experience in both direct practice and research. She served as a Case Manager and Graduate Research Assistant at the Raider Relief and Advocacy Resource Center at Texas Tech University, where she supported students facing financial, academic, and personal challenges while contributing to research and program evaluation initiatives. She also completed advanced clinical training at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Psychiatry Adult Clinic, providing support to adults experiencing mental and behavioral health challenges. Before relocating to the United States, Helena worked as a high school Social Studies teacher in Ghana, where she developed a passion for education, mentorship, and community development.

Helena's research focuses on Digital Mental Health, Adult and Aging Behavioral Health, and Policy and Program Evaluation. She is particularly interested in understanding how technology can be used to expand access to behavioral health services, reduce disparities in mental healthcare, promote healthy aging, and improve outcomes for vulnerable populations. Her long-term goal is to produce research that informs evidence-based interventions, strengthens social service programs, and shapes policies that improve individual and community well-being.

Helena is also a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and has been actively involved in initiatives that promote mental health awareness, behavioral health access, and community support services.

Outside of her academic and professional pursuits, Helena enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading about personal and professional development, and learning from the life journeys of individuals who have made meaningful contributions to their communities and professions.
