Remarks FAILED - This would impose a 6 month wait for students to begin attendance at the university.
Whereas Hepatitis B incidents have stopped declining and has risen now since 1993. Of 70,000 symptomatic infections per year, 8,400 to 19,000 require hospitalizations per year and 140 to 320 deaths per year result in the United States; and
Whereas Interviews with UTA staff indicate immunization for Hep B is a requirement at other UT campuses. The website at Austin does not list it; and
Whereas At UTA, all School of Nursing students and a few other students working in research are required to have immunization for Hep B. It is not required for other students; and
Whereas Hep B vaccine has been available since 1982. It is considered safe and is recommended by the CDC; and
Whereas The UTA student population has not been immunized for Hep B as they came through primary school before it was begun to be required.
Be It Further Resolved That All students entering UTA be required to be immunized for Hepatitis B before being admitted.
