Whereas Various UTA housing units have gas appliances provided by the university; and
Whereas A gas leak is virtually undetectable without the proper equipment; and
Whereas Inhalation of gases emitted by a leak can be fatal; and
Whereas A gas leak can cause an explosion.
Be It Further Resolved That UTA, in addition to fire and smoke detectors, place carbon monoxide detectors in all housing units which contain any gas or gas-related appliance; and
Be It Further Resolved That UTA place carbon monoxide detectors in all housing units which have gas pipes running near enough to them to pose as a potential health hazard in the event of a leak; and
Be It Further Resolved That UTA place carbon monoxide detectors in all housing units which have gas pipes running beneath them; and
Be It Further Resolved That These detectors will be installed in all of these units no later than summer 1996.
