Whereas The final week of classes is known as dead week; and
Whereas "Dead" refers to the policy that no instructor shall introduce new material and shall not give major exams during this week; and
Whereas Students need this week for review and studying for finals; and
Whereas Many instructors use this week to cram in all information from the syllabus they have not yet covered; and
Whereas This promotes memorization instead of true learning; and
Whereas This places undue and extremely unnecessary additional pressures on students.
Be It Further Resolved That UTA implement and enforce a university-wide policy about dead week; and
Be It Further Resolved That This policy shall state that no instructor shall give any exams during dead week; and
Be It Further Resolved That This policy shall not affect finals or parts of finals the sutdents elect to take during the week; and
Be It Further Resolved That Any exams given during this week that do not fit the exemptions shall be considered void; and
Be It Further Resolved That This resolution shall take effect in Spring 1995.
