Whereas | It is vital that all students that want to live on the UTA campus have the opportunity to do so; and |
Whereas | UTA owns 824 dorm beds, two per room and 539 apartment units; and |
Whereas | When classes started, 662 people were on a waiting list for the apartments and 200 women waited for dorm rooms; and |
Whereas | In a recent Arlington Citizen-Journal article, Dr. Amacher stated, "If we're going to aggressively recruit students from across the state, we'll need dorms;" and |
Whereas | Dr. Amacher has indicated that he does not want to pay for the dorms, but rather is earnestly meeting with the Arlington Chamber of Commerce and officials from other universities that have arranged for private investors to build on-campus housing. |
Be It Further Resolved That | Student Congress adopt this resolution and officially give our support to Dr. Amacher in his pursuit of more and better on-campus housing and encourage him to find private investors. |
